The 2018-19 3.4 Nino event was a time in which saw anomalously high sea surface temperatures in the western Pacific Ocean. The event contributed to several significant typhoons hitting the Philippines,Taiwan and Japan, including one that caused 12,000 deaths during its lifetime. The event was announced to have begun in June 2018, and lasted until it was pronounced that conditions returned to normal in August 2019. The event saw 21,000 fatalities in total, and dozens of destructive floods.
